Description

Introduction
Sustainability reporting offers companies the opportunity to better understand their impacts –both positive and negative- on society, the economy and the environment, and its long-term business benefits are widely documented.

In the Philippines, the business community has played an important role in the economic growth of the country, in spite of the regulatory barriers, and it has also been an important driving force behind collective progress towards sustainable development and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

While it is often difficult to gauge the magnitude and extent of their contribution, data has become more readily available in recent times. The 2017 UNDP Philippines publication “New Horizons: How Inclusive Businesses is helping Achieve the SDGs in the Philippines” highlighted the growing enthusiasm and interest of the Philippines private sector in adopting inclusive business models. GRI recorded that some 7% of publicly-listed companies or 23 of the 263 listed companies in the Philippines, which comprise at least 35% of the market capitalisation in the Philippine Stock Exchange, have issued Sustainability Reports,

GRI, in partnership with SM Investments Corporation, would like to invite more companies to unleash the power of sustainability reporting for their own businesses, and the world.

The GRI Sustainability Summit will provide a forum for business leaders to discuss trends and perspectives on sustainability and reporting. It will also be a platform where new and experienced sustainability professionals and reporters can build their capacity, skills and knowledge to improve corporate transparency for sustainable business decision-making. Participants can attend different sessions where they learn from the best practices in reporting, discover solutions to common reporting challenges and hear and learn from peers.

GRI (Global Reporting Initiative) is the independent, international organization that helps businesses and other organizations take responsibility for their impacts, by providing them with the global common language to communicate those impacts. We work with businesses, investors, policymakers, civil society, labor organizations and other experts to develop the GRI Standards and promote their use by organizations around the world.

The GRI Standards are the most widely used sustainability reporting standards globally. The Standards are advancing the practice of sustainability reporting, and enabling organizations and their stakeholders to take action that creates economic, environmental, and social benefits for everyone.
